PowerStrategies’ clientele included corporations focused on issues in the high tech, telecommunications, tax, housing and financial services, and trade arenas.
Before establishing PowerStrategies, Mr. Powers spent six years as a Principal at PodestaMattoon (formerly Podesta and Associates). His primary responsibilities included the development, management and implementation of all aspects of client strategies, primarily in the areas of high tech, biotechnology, healthcare, entertainment, telecommunications, financial services and the environment. Sinai / NYU Hospitals, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and GE Capital Mortgage (now Genworth Financial).
Mr. Powers joined Podesta in 1995 after serving two years as Deputy Director of the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) Congressional Affairs and Strategic Planning operation. His role there included working directly with the House and Senate Republican leadership on the crime bill, healthcare legislation and rollout of the “Contract with America”. After the pivotal 1994 elections, Mr. Powers was appointed by RNC Chairman Haley Barbour to serve as the RNC’s primary liaison with the notable 1995 Freshman class (representing nearly one-third of the House Republican Conference). Mr. Powers’ previous experience has included work as an account executive at worldwide public affairs firm Burson-Marsteller, Deputy to the Assistant Administrator for the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Director of Government Affairs at Primerica Financial Services (part of the Travelers Group).

In 2002, Mr. Powers was named by Campaigns and Elections magazine as a “Top Rising Star” of Politics – an honor reserved for only a handful of individuals from each party.
A Florida native, Mr. Powers is a graduate of Lee University (Cleveland, TN) with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. He and his wife Ellen have two children.
